Wick's Locally Ground is open

Hi to everyone,

Rain came at just the right time last Thursday. We had just finished putting in 3000 tomato plants and planted watermelons and cucumbers and the rain started. We got 3.5 inches at the farm and things are looking nice and green. We just added a recipe section to the web site. We invite you to put any of your favorite recipes on the page. This week we have added leeks to the available produce. Wishing all you Mothers a Happy Mother’s Day.

More cold weather continue to stope plant growth

With weather in the 70’s Fri and Sat of last week customers were buying plants like it was the end of April. But today it is 24 deg.(must be TX weather)and going down. We had a little ice at the farm but it wasn’t too bad. The store ordering hours have changed from 6 P.M.Saturdays to 8 P.M. Mondays. We have been working on a way to save you money on your produce. We have come up with a CSA – Farm Market. Take a look at

http://wicks.locallygrown.net/files/document/document/3058/original/2014_CSA_Member-Farmer_Agreement.pdf

and

http://wicks.locallygrown.net/files/document/document/3059/original/2014_CSA_Registration_Form.pdf

I am working on a way to pay for the CSA on the site. The site would then track your purchases and tell you the balance on your account.

Try to stay warm and we will talk to you next Sunday.

Weather stops plant growth

This is Dan and I just want to give you an update on the garden. Earlier today we checked the temperature of the soil; it was 38 degs. Plants won’t grow until the soil temperature gets to around 45 degs. As soon as that happens the plant will start to grow and produce will become available.

Wishing you a good week and we will talk next week.

Thank you,
Dan

Wick's Locally Grown Report

*Hi from Wick’s Locally Grown,

Once again, the weather isn’t cooperating with gardening. We have it
in the ground, just waiting for the weather to get better. Tonight it will be down in the teens so I don’t know what we will find in the morning. For those of you that do garden, it is time to get the garden spot back up. Between now and February 15 you need to get your onions in the ground. If you are going to plant Snow Peas, they need to be in by February 1. If you don’t, we should have Snow Peas and English
Peas ready around the 1st of April. Potatoes need to be in by Valentine’s Day. Stay warm in this frigid weather. We will email next Sunday and tell you what is going on at Wick’s Locally Grown. If you like what we are trying to do, please tell a friend to check out the store at http://www.wicks.locallygrown.net

Have a good week,

Dan

cool weather slows down harvest

Hi from Wick’s Locally Grown,

We hope that you and your family had a enjoyable Thanksgiving. Cool weather has slowed growth so it will be next week before anything will be ready to harvest.

Sincerely,

Dan Wickware – Farmer

PS: The selection for next spring and summer planting is in progress. We are going to try some new items this coming spring like asparagus, ginger, and fennel. If you have something you would like us to try email me and we will try it.
